From 2021-2023, Hester Street partnered with Museum Hue and The Laundromat Project to launch HueArts – a multidisciplinary advocacy platform for racial equity in the arts in New York City and New York State.
As part of this partnership, HST designed and created two interactive HueArts Digital Maps and Directories to spotlight more than 500 arts entities centering people of color in NYC and New York State. Additionally, we published two ‘Brown Papers’ outlining action steps for meaningful, systemic change to close the cultural equity gap and ensure long-term sustainability of POC arts entities in NYC and throughout New York State.
To compile data for this project, HST facilitated focus group conversations with POC arts leaders in NYC and across New York State, and we collected survey responses from over 500 POC centered arts organizations. The HueArts maps and policy reports for NYC and New York State can be found here.
